Yorkshire Building Society and Citizens Advice partnership

Yorkshire Building Society

Client: Citizens Advice

At Yorkshire Building Society, we are committed to supporting people across all ages with their financial wellbeing. That’s because we know building financial wellbeing can be difficult for anyone, in any part of society, and at any stage of life. The pandemic and ongoing economic turbulence has brought into sharp focus the very real challenges many people are facing. So, in 2021-22, we have invested £1.8 million to build upon our existing community programmes to roll-out a suite of new interventions. We aim to provide real help to people, focusing on skills, employment, financial education and wellbeing.

In May 2021, we launched an innovative pilot with Citizen Advice to fund their advisers in six of our branches to provide free, face-to-face independent advice to members of the public across a range of issues, including financial wellbeing. The programme has supported nearly 600 individual people in the first eight months, with six in ten people helped not existing Yorkshire Building Society customers and over 40% returning for help two or more times. As a result of this success, in March 2022, we’re expanding our partnership and reach into a further 12 Yorkshire Building Society branches across the Yorkshire and North West.
