Transforming hospital education for young people

Patients in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children used to receive just one hour of face-to-face teaching a day before Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and Deloitte Bristol created a unique partnership in 2022, which has transformed the educational experience for young people in hospital. Since 2022, the Deloitte Bristol team have raised more than £128,000 to fund additional learning for patients and their siblings at the hospital by taking part in the charity’s Big Abseil, Bath Half, the Great Bristol Run, the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge and much more.

Their commitment and dedication have delivered thousands of hours of additional specialist sessions, ensuring young people in hospital have access to drama, music, and singing, as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). In addition to the teaching sessions, a groundbreaking corporate volunteering programme has been created, with Deloitte staff volunteering with patients on a weekly basis to support patients’ learning and development.

In three years, more than 1,000 young people benefited from sessions with Deloitte volunteers or sessions made possible with Deloitte funding.
