Against all odds, on the 15th September 2021, Street Child and Liberty Global resurrected and revamped its legacy challenge event – The Big Ride. The event saw 550 participants from over 30 corporations come together to cycle and run for Street Child, covering an enormous 45,000km between them. In perspective, this is the equivalent of travelling around the world, and a bit more!
As well as covering epic distances through cycling up to 170km a day and running full and half marathons, the fundraising from the event reached an incredible £725,000, which was directed to Street Child's education and humanitarian projects in Afghanistan.
The purpose and ethos of the event was ‘connecting children to education in the world’s toughest places’ – given the current situation in Afghanistan, directing the fundraising to this country had never been more crucial.
Street Child is working tirelessly across Afghanistan to deliver urgent humanitarian support, as well as ensuring access to safe, quality education and protection services for more than 100,000 girls and boys. Our team and partners have a 25- year heritage in-country and Street Child's 1,600 local staff means we have substantial reach across multiple provinces with local access.
