Client: Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN)

We know it’s harder to reach some communities and because of this they often encounter barriers to accessing support and advice due to trust issues, cultural beliefs, and a lack of awareness about available services.

This is why we’ve partnered with the Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN) to support black communities. We aim to reach as many of the black community as possible with the offer of advice and support in our key services and help keep them safe and warm in their homes.

The support includes energy efficiency, income maximisation and carbon monoxide (CO) safety advice and registration to the Priority Services Register.

We can also offer practical assistance, such as free gas safety checks and free heated blankets and slow cookers, alleviating the burden of fuel poverty and associated risks.

The project has already made a significant impact, reaching more than treble the number of households than our original target. Feedback shows the impact of the project is not just financial but also offers peace of mind. Individuals report feeling safer after speaking to our specialist support workers.

Ongoing evaluation will ensure its effectiveness and sustainability as well as look to how we can help further.
