SCC, Rigby Foundation and Generation UK partnership

SCC

Client: Rigby Group & Generation UK

The partnership between SCC, The Rigby Foundation, and Generation UK is a targeted, high‑impact collaboration designed to break down systemic barriers to employment for people aged 18 years and above across the West Midlands. Through a £600,000 three-year investment from The Rigby Foundation, Generation UK delivers intensive skills bootcamps that equip unemployed and disadvantaged young adults with technical and professional capabilities in high growth sectors such as technology, green energy and health and social care.

SCC strengthens this delivery by providing hands‑on employability training, industry insights and direct mentoring from its colleagues. Over a series of tailored employability days, SCC volunteers offer CV and interview support, career advice and real‑world sector knowledge, helping boost learners’ confidence, motivation and readiness for work. Workplace exposure, such as site tours at SCC Recyclea, further enable participants to explore diverse career pathways within the tech and sustainability industries.

In its first year the programme has upskilled more than 207 people aged 18 years and above, addressed acute local unemployment challenges and contributed to long‑term social mobility. With strong graduation and job placement rates, this partnership demonstrates the power of combining philanthropy, employer engagement and skills training to create meaningful and sustained social change.
