Santander and Macmillan Cancer Support joined in partnership in 2022, with the joint ambition of making money one less worry for people affected by cancer. Coming together in the shadow of the pandemic and in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, our causes perfectly aligned as we sought to ease financial pressures on people affected by cancer in a time where uncertainty and worries were increasing alongside bills and spending. Through creating three objectives – focussed on supporting Santander’s customers, colleagues and communities – we generated workstreams to ensure Macmillan acts as a critical friend for Santander to help make their products, services and customer journey the greatest it can be to support customers affected by cancer, whilst also ensuring colleague wellbeing is supported through training, and ensuring our partnership has community impact through volunteering, fundraising, and advertising our services through sponsorship. So far, colleagues have raised £1.2 million to support Macmillan’s vital work and have begun supporting customers affected by cancer in conjunction with Macmillan, and both organisations are excited to continue supporting those with financial worries due to their diagnosis in the future.
