Newlife £1 School Uniform

Matalan

Client: Newlife The Charity for Disabled Children

The Newlife £1 School Uniform initiative transformed potential waste into community value by using brand-new uniform items donated by high street retailers including Matalan, preventing them from going to landfill. Following a packaging redesign, Matalan donated their excess school uniform stock and saleable returns to Newlife to be sold through their nine retail stores. These donations serve as an alternative to sending the items to landfill or recycling, ensuring that stock which is of a saleable quality reaches a new audience of customers and remains in the sustainable fashion loop, rather than going to waste while allowing local families benefit from affordable, high-quality school uniform essentials at a time when the rising cost of uniform was a significant concern to families across the UK coping with the cost-of-living crisis.

With all proceeds from uniform sales going to support Newlife's charitable aims of providing essential equipment and support to children with disabilities across the UK, the initiative successfully demonstrated how a well-planned retail campaign can deliver commercial success, operational efficiency, social value, and charitable impact, with clear, measurable outcomes that benefit both the community and children with disabilities.
