Dementia UK and Nationwide Fairer Futures

Nationwide Building Society

Client: Dementia UK

As part of Fairer Futures, Nationwide’s social impact strategy, Nationwide and Dementia UK formed a transformational partnership in 2024 to address the challenges faced by families affected by dementia. With one in two people expected to be impacted and strained care systems leaving many without adequate support, the partnership set a bold ambition: to ensure 100,000 people living with dementia, and those who care for them, receive specialist, compassionate support.

To achieve this, Nationwide funds 30 specialist dementia nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, and has created the UK’s first large scale high street-based dementia support service. More than 240 branches now host face to face clinics. Funding has also enhanced virtual support and increased capacity on Dementia UK’s Helpline. Two Admiral Nurses are also embedded within Nationwide to improve colleague support and services for vulnerable customers. To date, this activity has helped over 46,000 people, delivered 4,700 clinic appointments, and trained 6,000 colleagues to better support those affected.

The partnership has brought significant benefits: accessible, local specialist care for society; expanded reach and capacity for Dementia UK; and strengthened community impact for Nationwide. Together, we are transforming how and where families access dementia support—bringing confidence and hope when it’s needed.
