Clifford Chance and Hope and Homes for Children: Celebrating a Transformative Partnership

Clifford Chance

Client: Hope and Homes for Children

Since 2009, Clifford Chance and Hope and Homes for Children (HHC) have built an extraordinary, sector defining partnership dedicated to ending the institutional care of children globally. Our collaboration goes far beyond fundraising to ensure that children can grow up in families where they can thrive and strives to deliver systemic change around a critical but less well-understood issue of the institutionalisation of children.

Combining funding with unparalleled pro bono legal expertise, strategic guidance, and advocacy, Clifford Chance is helping HHC deliver systemic childcare reform across multiple countries. This long-term collaboration has driven social change by strengthening family and community-based care and ensuring that vulnerable children can grow up with the love and protection of a family.

The partnership has supported the closure of 149 orphanages, reunited children with families, trained thousands of childcare professionals, and informed national and international policy. Major initiatives include a landmark national audit of Ukraine’s childcare system, EU level advocacy securing commitments to deinstitutionalisation, and targeted community programmes such as supporting adolescent mothers in Rwanda.

This unparalleled partnership offers a blueprint for how the private sector can collaborate meaningfully with charities combining financial support with strategic engagement to deliver lasting change.
