Construction workers are almost four times more likely to die by suicide than the general public. With a shared determination to reduce this statistic, major UK homebuilder Cala Group have been partnered with suicide prevention charity Samaritans, since 2020.

Together, Samaritans and Cala have shifted the conversation surrounding mental health and suicide within Cala. Their 1,300 employees and 5,000+ subcontractor partners are making the move to strengthen their mental health and emotional wellbeing with Samaritans support. Cala Group have raised a total of over £620,000 for Samaritans, supporting the charity's vital work across the UK and Ireland providing 24/7 life-saving support to people who are struggling to cope. Now in the fifth year of partnership, Cala and Samaritans are continuing to work together to build a better culture around emotional wellbeing on Cala’s construction sites, in their offices and in subcontractor teams. The partnership supports Cala’s goal to be a business that leaves a positive legacy for people and the planet, and Samaritans’ vision that fewer people die by suicide. In 2023, Cala raised a record £230,000 through corporate donations and fundraising by staff, suppliers and subcontractors; which could help fund over 46,000 calls for help.
