In November 2019, a collaborative fundraising, awareness and health promotion partnership between the UK’s largest Japanese restaurant chain, YO! and the world’s leading men’s health charity Movember to improve mental health within the hospitality industry.
The hospitality sector in the UK accounts for more than 3 million jobs, with one of the highest prevalence rates of poor mental health in the country. Movember is leading the way in tackling mental health and suicide in men through awareness campaigns and upstream methods to help people before they get to crisis point. By working together Movember and YO! aimed to reduce the stigma of mental health and get staff and customers talking about it.
Some of the core objectives of the partnership were to:
-To increase the conversation around mental health in the hospitality industry in order to drive positive change
-To raise awareness, provide prompts and tools to start conversations about mental health and wellbeing
-To raise funds for Movember
-To highlight YO! as an environment for men (and women) to have a conversation as an upstream solution to the mental health crisis
By the end of the campaign, the partnership has raised £131,701 – 14.5% above target.
