Warburtons is a private family-owned business. It is the largest family-owned bakery business in the country, employing around 4,500 people across 12 bakeries and 14 depots across the UK. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the world's leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. The charity partnership was established in October 2014 and was originally set to run for 4 years.
There were 4 key partnership objectives:
•To raise £300k for CRUK over the proposed 4 year period through employee fundraising
•Support Warburtons ""Live Well"" strategy through a range of health and wellbeing employee engagement resources
•Measure the impact of the CRUK health messaging amongst staff groups
•Report on the fundraising amounts raised by Bakery Hubs quarterly
The fundraising target was exceeded within just 2 years. Staff engagement, which centred on CRUK health awareness messaging, was well received. The partnership was extended for a further 3 years.
This year has seen more focus on health awareness activities that are tailored to the specific requirements of each Warburton site - e.g. bespoke health communications. Fundraising continues - over £1.5million has been raised to date through activities including Warbathlon, Tour De Warbies, Sponsored Walks, Annual Golf Days, Big Breakfasts and 100k challenges.
