The Great Tesco Walk was one of the biggest fundraising events in Tesco’s history and formed part of its commitment to helping colleagues and customers live healthier lives. Funds were being raised for the Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation, through the National Charity Partnership (NCP). The NCP aimed to help colleagues and customers to take small steps to better health. The Great Tesco Walk was a mass participation fundraising event exclusively for Tesco colleagues; over 4000 colleagues walked, in relay, from Land’s End to John O’Groats. It formed an important part of the National Charity Partnership's final year of activity. The event and associated activity raised £1m for the Partnership, alongside helping colleagues to get active and reduce their risk of developing heart and circulatory disease and Type 2 diabetes. The Tesco Community Team and the central NCP Team worked together to recruit, steward, support and motivate colleagues. Action Challenge led on the delivery and logistics for the month long event. Tesco also involved customers by asking them to round-up to their bill to their nearest 10p across all checkouts. This was the first time a national campaign of this scale and duration was carried out across Tesco.
