Santander UK began a partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, in January 2019. The mission for the partnership is for Santander to become the best dementia friendly bank in the UK.
We are focussing on three key areas:
- Communities – maximise the positive impact Santander has in the communities we operate in
- Customers – be the bank that best supports people affected by dementia
- People – ensure the wellbeing of our colleagues and expand the understanding of dementia
Santander UK became the Lead Sponsor of Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk event series in 2019, as the activity ties into all three areas of our partnership. As part of the sponsorship agreement, Santander UK set an ambitious target, committing to engaging 1,000 employees to raise a massive £100,000. Through implementing an innovative communications plan, divisional leader boards and substantial investment and resource from Santander, we saw Santander UK become the most engaged partner of Memory Walk ever. Over 1,000 Santander employees took part in Memory Walk 2019 raising over £183,000. This could fund five Side by Side sites for a year - trained volunteers who support people with dementia and their families in their local communities - and buy three specialist freezers for the Brains for Dementia Research Programme.
