Leeds Building Society is supporting Samaritans to be there when it matters.
Our partnership aims to enhance the technology within Samaritans branches, helping the charity to keep pace with growing volumes and respond to the changing ways in which people now get in touch. By 2020 the Society has a goal to raise £250,000, which could fit out over 50 Samaritans branches with new technology.
Within the first nine months of the partnership (1 March - 31 Dec 2018), the Society had surpassed its year one target (£90,000), raising £145,000. It also introduced a 100% matched funding scheme, an additional seven hours volunteering time per colleague for Samaritans projects, and a network of 50+ Community Ambassadors across the country to support activities.
Since the partnership launched the Society recorded its highest-ever colleague scores for community engagement and became one of the first businesses in the UK to host Samaritans' Wellbeing in the City tool - of those who've completed one or more modules, 100% of colleagues said it increased their awareness of looking after their own wellbeing and 100% said it increased their confidence in being able to recognise signs of emotional distress in others.
