Berkeley Homes (North East London) Ltd and Home-Start London’s (HSL) 3-year partnership started in October 2018. Home-Start is a leading UK provider of volunteer-based family support. HSL aims to deliver much-needed services to reach more vulnerable families, particularly those living in deprived areas. The Berkeley Foundation aims to help children by assisting them to overcome barriers, improve their lives and build a fairer society.
The key focus of this 3-year partnership is to enable Home-Start to deliver services in and around our housing developments in Islington, Enfield, Tower Hamlets and Hackney. London’s highest child poverty rates are experienced in these boroughs.
In 2018/19, we ran a series of fundraising and employee volunteering activities. We raised £169,000 exceeding our fundraising target by 69%. A highlight was a ‘DIY SOS’ volunteering event - a complete refurbishment of a Home-Start family home, with 19 employees giving their time and skills.
As a result of the partnership, Home-Start services are being delivered in 3 new boroughs with 138 families , 265 children and 92 volunteers benefiting from Home-Start support or activities to reduce isolation; improve mental health and increase confidence in parenting skills.
