Power Up Scotland

Aberdeen Standard Investments, University of Edinburgh, Brodies LLP and Scottish Government and Big Issue Invest

Power Up Scotland, a new partnership between Aberdeen Standard Investments, Big Issue Invest, Scottish Government, University of Edinburgh and Brodies LLP has had a significant impact on the social enterprise scene in Scotland since it launched last year. From a standing start, the consortium has unlocked funding of over £1million for early stage social enterprises to grow, and delivered over 1000 hours of specialist business mentoring, legal advice plus networks and connections to deliver increased success and impact.
The programme will be delivered again in 2019, with the intention to bring at least one more corporate partner and investor on board. The total commitment from Aberdeen Standard Investments of £400,000 for operational costs ensures that the lead staff member is in place for three more years to support social enterprises we've already invested in, as well as recruit new participants to the programme. Overall, the programme has had a significant positive impact in helping to realise the aims of Scotland's Social Enterprise Strategy and the goal of creating a thriving, sustainable social enterprise sector with all the benefits that brings.
