Making Space for Samaritans

Leeds Building Society & Leeds Rhinos and Samaritans

Every six seconds someone contacts Samaritans for help.

Our "Making Space for Samaritans" campaign was designed to get the message out to rugby fans that it’s ‘okay not to be okay’.

15 August 2019 was one of the biggest games in the rugby league calendar as Leeds Rhinos took on St Helens RFC at Headingley Stadium. With a huge international audience, we knew the world would be watching. So we gifted our prized Leeds Building Society shirt sponsorship to Samaritans – raising their profile, and championing the importance of mental wellbeing.

With the game broadcast live on Sky Sports, "Making Space for Samaritans" reached an audience of more than 3.5 million people – targeting those who’ve been traditionally less likely to seek support if struggling to cope.

Whether we spoke to one spectator managing their own struggle, or inspired an army of fans to think differently about mental wellbeing, we’re proud that our partnership made Samaritans the centre of attention.
