Leeds Building Society Corporate Responsibility

Leeds Building Society

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Leeds Building Society is all about doing what's right for members, colleagues and communities.

A team of three are responsible for embedding the CSR strategy into the business, driving progress towards 2020 targets, and investing in communities. In 2018, by delivering against the strategy, the team:

- Supported 12,000 first time buyers into a home, reduced the organisations' carbon footprint by 95% (compared to a 2016 baseline) and increased customer satisfaction to over 91%.
- Achieved the Fair Tax Mark, taking a stand against tax avoidance and committing to transparently report tax contributions
- Invested £500,000 into communities through time and charitable giving
- Set up the Society's first national charity partnership with Samaritans, raising £145,000 within nine months
- Doubled the percentage of colleagues volunteering from 30% in 2016 to 62% in 2018
- Introduced 100% matched funding and an extra 7 hours volunteering for projects that support Samaritans
- Launched a network of Community Ambassadors across the organisation to drive engagement locally
- Produced an organic cotton volunteering t-shirt manufactured to the highest environmental standards and fully traceable, enabling colleagues to see who made the garment at every stage of the process
