KPMG has co-sponsored The City Academy, Hackney (TCAH), along with City of London Corporation since its inception in 2009, each providing £1 million of initial funding. Co-sponsorship through the Government’s Academies programme enabled KPMG to dramatically increase the scope, scale and impact of our local community support. KPMG volunteers provide a holistic programme of support to the school. This includes five positions on the Board of Governors, pro-bono support on financial management and a wide range of academic and employability support, and work experience to broaden students’ career horizons.
Individuals’ life chances are frequently limited by their socio-economic background, regardless of their talent, potential or hard work. Schools need long-term, needs-led, dependable support from businesses and this is what KPMG delivered. The partnership with the Academy is showing the benefits of this:
•TCAH has been rated by the Department for Education as one of the top 5 schools in England for student progress in both 2014 and 2015.
•The attainment of students in their GCSEs demonstrated the third best progress of any school in London and placed TCAH seventh out of 6000+ schools in the country.
•It’s directly feeding into KPMG’s talent pipeline, client relationships and reputation among key stakeholders.
