The aim of a partnership with Greenfingers Charity was to motivate employees within the hotel family to deliver both commercial and charitable benefits.
Inspired by Greenfingers (a small, effective charity making a big impact through the creation of multi-purpose gardens for life-limited children), employee Helen Barker initiated, managed and self-funded an impressive fundraising/awareness campaign ‘#Run53’. Helen physically and emotionally pushed herself to her very limits, taking part in 53 ‘back to back’ ambitious running events, including multiple full, half and ultra-marathons, to represent the 53 Greenfingers gardens UK-wide.
Helen's relentless training/participation throughout her spare time, whilst juggling family/working life, personally raised £3,000. Helen in-turn enthused work colleagues to take on-board fundraising themselves, collectively raising a staggering £233,000 in 2years. Vastly surpassing all targets, this increased Greenfingers’ corporate income almost four-fold, generating 73% of corporate donations. From negligible charity engagement pre-partnership, 74% percent of Kew Green staff raised funds and the charity’s awareness was raised amongst 96% of staff. As a result, three further children’s gardens are planned to benefit a further 1000 sick children.
Helen’s fundraising continues, she is training for the daunting #RunSahara Marathon, 26.2 miles (twice!) across one of the most hostile environments on earth, The Sahara Desert, in 40+ degrees.
