Autistica is one of two Deutsche Bank Charities of the Year (COTY) for 2016-17, nominated and voted for by employees and supported through fundraising and volunteering.
In 2016, the partnership raised over £1.1 million for Autistica, a record for a DB COTY. Employee engagement is at an all-time high as a result of a programme of autism events to educate, inform and engage employees.
Autistica collaborated with DB’s disability and inclusion networks to recruit champions affected by autism to share their story and motivate colleagues to fundraise and volunteer. Employees were offered a range of skilled volunteer and advisory roles including mentoring and skills development. We co-created two ground-breaking and unique bespoke projects: developing a smartphone app prototype to support autistic people with anxiety and creating a research-backed internship scheme for autistic graduates to help them into work.
With a total of 3,933.75 volunteer hours spent on Autistica initiatives, DB’s employees’ skills, time and fundraising efforts have accelerated autism research projects in the UK by 3-5 years and created the first autism internship scheme with research embedded, so DB can help other companies better support autistic people in the workplace.
