Judging
Who are the judges?
They are an independent panel with relevant skills and experience, recruited by Third Sector from among charities, corporates and sector professionals.
What will they do?
They will be sent the entries after the closing date and will meet for a day in March to produce a shortlist which will be published in Third Sector and on thirdsector.co.uk.
How will they score the entries?
Each category has a series of questions for entrants to answer (link here to categories). The answers to these, with any supporting material, will attract up to 60 points. The judges will also have in mind four general criteria, and will award up to 10 marks for each. This will give a total out of 100. An average will be taken of all the judges’ scores.
What are the criteria?
- Has the entrant answered the questions and kept to the word length?
- Is there a good fit between the charity and the company and does the partnership advance the objectives of both partners?
- What is quality of the relationship, including planning, communications and decision-making?
- Has the partnership brought lasting benefits, such as changes in policy or practice, or a model that could be used by others?
In the case of Business Charity Champion and Employee of the Year, the judges will allocate up to 10 marks for the first criterion. The remaining 90 marks will be allocated on the strength of the answers to the questions in each category.
Any general rules?
The decisions of the judges are independent and final and no correspondence will be entered into about the results. The judges have the right to move entries between categories if they feel they have been entered in the wrong category. Any judge who has been involved with an entry is not allowed to lobby the other judges, nor vote for that project.
